The first 30 native Growling Grass frogs that have been relocated from Coliban Water facilities near Bendigo to Winton Wetlands took an important step forward (or was it a hop?) on Monday 9 October 2023 when they were released from laboratory and quarantine facilities into the outdoors.
This followed completion of monitoring required to ensure they were free of fungal and other diseases since arriving on-site six months earlier.
Their new home, for the time being, is a series of outdoor breeding pods, where the frogs will be able to socialise amongst themselves and, we hope, begin breeding.
If all goes well, the first Growlers to be released fully into the wild at Winton Wetlands will be ‘out and about’ by end of 2023.
