Honoured visitors welcomed

Winton Wetlands was honoured on Tuesday 28 February 2023 to receive a visit from elders and staff from Njernda Aboriginal Corporation based in Echuca. The group participated in sightseeing and discussion, and an enjoyable outdoor lunch at the Education Centre.

Shown here are visiting elders, Njernda staff, and senior people associated with Winton Wetlands including members of our Committee of Management. We’re hoping others from Njernda will make similar trips in future!

We respectfully acknowledge The Wollithiga and Yorta Yorta Peoples as the traditional custodians of the land of the communities that the Njernda Aboriginal Corporation serves.

Winton Wetlands Committee of Management recognises that the site lies within the traditional lands of the Yorta Yorta people, the original owners of Country. We respect their deep enduring connection to their lands and waterways and recognise that sovereignty was never ceded.

We honour and respect their ancestors, their Elders past, present and emerging and acknowledge the significant role Yorta Yorta people play in support of the Winton Wetlands restoration project and of our programs.
