This newly created role of Education Officer with the Winton Wetlands is pivotal in enhancing and developing greater understanding of the ecology and cultural significance of the Winton Wetlands and Murray Catchment to Students, Community groups Tourism Bodies and the General public.

So the position: It reports directly to the CEO of the Winton Wetlands and logically liaises with all the other staff at the Winton Wetlands.

The position (ie -the incumbent) interacts and coordinates with Schools and Education Bodies, Community Groups, Tourism Bodies and the General Public. As well as State Government, Natural Resources and Catchment Management and other agencies, Conservation and Environmental Networks, Consultants, Local Government and other funding bodies including The Yorta Yorta Nation Aboriginal Corporation.

The essential criteria for the role requires the incumbent to have: 

  • A qualification in Education, Sustainability or Environmental studies
  • Experience in educating and engaging with students of all levels and abilities
  • Demonstrated ability and experience in developing and delivering innovative and creative learning programs relevant to Winton Wetlands
  • Demonstrated ability to take responsibility for managing work activities to achieve results
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate with influence and develop productive relationships with a range of stakeholders including staff, teachers, students, and other external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated appreciation of wetland education, research, indigenous and cultural heritage of the site in delivery of innovative learning and recreational programs.
  • Strong computer skills, specifically in the Microsoft suite of packages and experience in the use of databases
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Current Australian Drivers Licence, Police Check and Working with Children’s Check
  • A minimum availability to work 3 days per week (Mon- Fri) in school terms.

(Availability of greater than 3 days per week and being available at short notice will be highly regarded).

While our desirable incumbent would have:

  • Experience as an educator in the school environment or environmental field.
  • Knowledge and understanding of how to link environmental programs to the school curriculum.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the natural environment and wetlands
  • Current First Aid Certificate
  • Experience in planning and delivery of educational programs, including online delivery
  • Experience in stakeholder engagement
